Monograph 1—ANNUNCIATION
$10.00
Description
The visit of the Angel Gabriel to Mary of Nazareth (Lk 1:26-38) was a unique flashpoint of grace in human history. God intervened in the world through an encounter that probably lasted less than two minutes, judging from the amount of dialogue (only 176 words in total).
And nothing has been the same since then.
Maybe that is why artists throughout the ages have been so enamored of the Annunciation as an artistic theme. It has all the elements of the best dramas: a mysterious being who visits from another realm; a young, beautiful, intelligent woman who is called to a new type of heroism; a world-changing event on the horizon.
This first edition of the Sacred Windows Monographs Series displays 20 images of the Annunciation in full color images from all ages of the Church. Each image is located within the history of art and features a brief explanation about its origin and unique details. But the images are meant to speak for themselves in the beauty of their colors and dynamism.
The reader is invited to enter and contemplate each scene, hear the holy words of the speakers, and bask in the presence of The Word, Jesus Christ, who took on human flesh in that very moment of unsurpassed wonder.
